It is no secret that there is nothing more unappealing than having a face that is sore and swollen. The swollen face and eyes make your face appear tired, older and in this case, makes it obvious that you’ve been in a fight. There are however, several options to relieve your situation. As soon as you wake up, take an ice pack and keep it on your eyes for some time. The cold compress will help in reducing the swelling and lead to your face appearing far more refreshed than you may actually be feeling.
If an ice pack is unavailable, reach out for a pack of frozen peas or any other form of frozen food from the freezer and use it as a substitute. In the absence of frozen substances, take two teaspoons, preferably made from any metal such as stainless steel, and place it in the freezer. After an hour, remove them from the freezer and place them on the puffy eyes. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day will also help you in refreshing and hydrating your eyes. Cucumber slices are also known to bring relief from tired and puffy eyes. It is believed that the slices of cucumber release juices that permeate into the skin and reduce puffiness.
If the puffiness seems to be too severe and is persistent even after a few days of treatment with obvious appearances of swelling around other parts of the face, it is advisable to see a doctor as soon as possible, to rule out serious facial injury. However getting rid of a black eye due to a typical bruise usually takes time and patience. An over-the-counter pain reliever as well as drinking limited amounts of caffeine can be useful in reducing the pain and puffiness as well as preventing the chances of the puffiness leading to a black eye. Try to keep your head raised while sleeping at night, and be wary of not rolling over to the sides, especially where the black eye might be developing. A gentle massage with the help of your fingertips, in slow motion may help in the movement of blood around the affected area, but if it is tender and sore to the touch, refrain from touching the affected area.
You can also try dipping a cotton ball in a cup of cold water, squeezing out the excess water and placing the moist cotton ball onto the eyelids to help reduce swelling and inflammation.
