Cirrhosis of liver alternative remedies Cirrhosis of the liver occurs most commonly due to excessive intake of alcohol. It may also be a result of using certain kinds of medication. Some cases are said to have an autoimmune component.
Ideally one should completely avoid consumption of alcohol if suffering from cirrhosis. The following dietary changes may be helpful:
- Cut down on intake of oily and fried foods
- Try and consume 5-9 servings of fresh and cooked vegetable and fruit every day
- Include uncooked sprouts of lentils, chickpeas and sunflower seeds in your diet.
- Switch to organic foods to cut down on toxin intake.
Supplements that have been studied for their use in cirrhosis are listed below:
- Milk thistle contains a substance called silymarin which has shown benefit in repairing damage to liver cells from cirrhosis. This is one of the best known remedies for this condition.
- Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish are said to be good for the liver. You can also take a fish oil supplement if fish is not a regular part of your diet
- Alpha Lipoic Acid is being studied for benefit in cirrhosis and appears to show promise
- An herb called Eclipta Alba is said to be effective for cirrhosis as well.
Additionally applying alternate hot and cold compresses to the liver area and breathing exercises will also be beneficial.
