- Deviated septum means that the nasal partition between the two nostrils is not straight but crooked. A deviated septum can cause nasal congestion or snoring in some people.
- Eat foods which are rich in vitamin C like broccoli, cabbage, grapefruits, oranges, strawberries, peppers and lemons. Eat less dairy products as increase the mucus secretion.
- Supplement your diet with magnesium and calcium. Fill an empty nasal spray container with warm water and spray it in your nostrils whenever there is congestion. This naturally moistens the nose.
- Certain hot peppers like jalapenos generate tears and swill out a congested nose.
- You can also try nasal lavage, where a small pot with a spout is used to pour a saline solution in one nostril and permitted to run out from the other one. This lubricates the nose, opens the passage and helps in the release of the mucus.
- Avoid feathers, animal furs and carpets in the house. Vacuum clean the mattress and sheets regularly to keep the house dust free.
- Avoid smoking and refrain from eating foods that causes cold and other forms of allergy.
- Boil water in a container and take steam from it regularly. This will help clear the nasal passage.
- Practice deep breathing exercises to remove blockage from the nose.
