Perhaps you ate or drank something very hot and scalded yourself but did not immediately realize it. A fish bone or some other kind of small sharp bone may have scraped the roof of your mouth or it may be an ulcer, though ulcers usually do not appear on the roof of your mouth. They are more likely to appear on the lining of the oral cavity.
Here are some natural remedies that may help with the problem:
- Suck on some ice or at a popsicle. Ice cream should also do. This will soothe the area.
- Try not to eat anything hot or spicy.
- Don't eat crackly or hard foods like chips or other crisp snacks.
- Don't eat anything that is fresh off the stove or out of the microwave. Let it cool for a minimum of fifteen minutes.
- Try and gargle with salt water every two hours or so.
- Apply some pectin to the roof of your mouth. This is said to have a protective effect.
It may not anything to worry about and will probably get better in 2-3 days. In the meanwhile keep drinking cold fluids and eating ice cream without worrying about the calories for a change.
