An infestation of head lice must be taken care of as soon as possible, or else it may spread to other members of the home. It is certainly possible to get rid of head lice and nits by using home remedies. As a matter of fact, there are hardly any prescriptions that can be administered to you if you have lice. Vitamin E oil applied directly may work to cure a mild infestation of lice. However, there are better, stronger and more effective remedies available to do this.
Mayonnaise is supposedly considered a very useful measure to get rid of lice. Rub it deep into the scalp and leave it on for an hour or so. Wash with regular shampoo. This method will kill lice in about two days to a week, depending upon how strong the infestation is. You can also apply shaving cream to your scalp. Leave this on for about 10 minutes and then wash it off with regular shampoo. To stop growth and control the lice, follow these procedures on a daily basis for the first one week that you start them. Another very highly effective way is to add a few drops of tea tree oil to your regular shampoo and use it. This remedy, however, is not recommended for children. You can also mix equal parts of mineral oil and vinegar and apply this to your scalp.
