Do nasal polyps cause pain in the nose?

Nasal polyps are small, soft and pearly growths which occur in the nasal passage. While these are sometimes so small that they are microscopic in nature, they can also be large enough to cause obstructions in your nasal passages. They also grow differently in different people. While they may sometimes manifest as a single polyp, they may also grow in small clusters like grapes. They are always gelatinous to touch and feel, when they can be touched and felt. As a general rule, nasal polyps do not cause any kind of overt pain. However, as stated earlier, they may cause difficulty in breathing by obstructing your nasal passages. This usually happens when they have been left to their own devices and have grown too large to handle otherwise. It is better not to let things get out of hand and reach this stage, however. Another word of caution is required here. If you have polyps that are causing you pain, this is an unusual situation and one that requires medical attention as well. It is essential that you not neglect this, as it could lead to greater and worse things.

Polyps in children, especially, are not uncommon and are particularly difficult to handle, since children can barely express themselves. One of the signs that could indicate nasal polyps is that the child will breathe through the mouth most of the time. Watch out for this. There are also various other signs that indicate the presence of nasal polyps. It is important to known that a lot of these signs can be confused as a common cold or allergies. However, if they persist for more than a month, you should get a medical examination. Some of the signs to watch out for are a runny, stuffy nose, snoring, no sense of smell and cold.
