The production of melanin in the body causes skin to appear darker. Fairer skin has a lower production of melanin. Sometimes the melanin deposits cause uneven patches in the skin. Sun tan, age or pollution also cause discoloration of your facial skin. Cosmetic remedies like bleach are an option but you should get it done professionally, before you attempt using it by yourself.

There are various home made face-packs that will help with the discoloration and give you a more even skin tone. You may want to try a patch test of these packs first on your arm to avoid any unpleasant reactions.

  • Dry orange peels and then grind to a powder and mix them with raw milk. Apply this paste on your face every day and rinse off with lukewarm water once it is dry to touch.
  • Make a paste of sandalwood powder, tomato juice, cucumber juice, apply on the skin and wash it off once it is dry.
  • Make a mixture of 2 spoonfuls of gram flour, a pinch of turmeric, a few drops of lemon juice and a few drops of milk cream. Apply this to your face and wash off once it is dry.
  • Make a paste of peeled almonds which have been soaked over night and honey. Apply on your face and scrub off once it is dry.
  • Potatoes have bleaching agents in them which help with discoloration. Apply its juice everyday on your face to reduce blemishes and pigmentation.

Exfoliation is also a viable option. It is the process of scrubbing away the dead skin to reveal healthy clearer skin underneath. Combine 2 tablespoons each of finely ground oatmeal, granulated sugar and brown sugar, with a pinch of nutmeg, ½ cup almond oil and mix well. Wet your face before you apply it to your face. Rub gently in circular motions. Rinse off well and then pat dry with a face towel.
