Remedy for allergy and breath congestion

One thing that brings relief in cases of chest congestion is steam. You can heat a pan of water and once it comes to boil, add some eucalyptus oil to the hot, steaming water and inhale it for a period of 10-15 minutes. This is very useful in making the thick mucous watery, and will clear out your nasal passages. You can also try rubbing the eucalyptus oil on your chest in order to obtain relief. Apply a few drops of the same to your handkerchief and inhale the vapors released for instant relief from a blocked nose. Just spending a extra few minutes in the bathroom after you have had a hot shower can also feel soothing, as the steam in the bathroom can work in the same way.

Drink lots of hot fluids to clear out the congestion. Drink many glasses of water everyday and the thick mucous will become watery. This leads to an opening of the nasal passages and reduced congestion in the respiratory tract. Avoid having milk or other dairy products as these can lead to formation of more mucous. Instead replace your daily dose of milky tea or coffee with herbal teas. You can try plain green tea, chamomile tea, or any herbal tea that is easily available in the area you live in. You can also drink glasses of honey-sweetened lemon juice or barley water to increase your intake of healthy fluids.

As this seems to be a long-standing ailment you should visit a medical practitioner to determine what causes your allergy. There are various irritants that can lead to the symptoms you describe. You could be allergic to dust, pollen or some other allergen. While you try to ascertain and treat the root cause of your allergy and congestion you can do the above mentioned to relieve the symptoms.
