Acupuncture and Endometriosis

Posted in Category : Women's Health

Endometriosis is a condition that is known to affect millions of girls and women worldwide. This condition affects women who are in their reproductive or child bearing years. Endometrial cells are those that grown on the inside of the uterus. When cells similar to these, start growing on locations outside the uterus, it leads to a condition known as endometriosis. In other words, this condition is brought about when the endometrium or the tissue which lines the inside of the uterus starts attaching itself to locations outside of the uterus, resulting in the formation of lesions. These lesions may form in several parts of the body; however, the fallopian tubes, pelvic sidewall and the ovaries are some of the more common locations. In addition to this, they may also be found in the rectum, appendix, colon, intestines, bowels and bladder. These locations tend to be uncommon. In some rare cases the lesions have been found to develop within the brain, spine, bladder, vagina and even on the skin.

What are the Symptoms

The most common symptom associated with this condition is pelvic pain, which is very similar to the pain that is experienced during the menstrual cycle. In some women the pain can be so debilitating and severe, that it begins to interfere with their daily activities. Apart from this, other symptoms include, spotting in between periods, heavier periods, periods that are more painful and a feeling of tenderness in the abdomen region during ovulation. Some women also tend to experience pain while urinating or during bowel movements during their periods and pain during intercourse.
