What is eczema? Eczema is a form of a skin disease that is caused when there is an inflammation of the epidermis. The term is also used for a range of persistent skin conditions such as dryness and recurring rashes which are red and swollen. They could be accompanied with itching, flaking, blistering, oozing or bleeding. There could be temporary skin discoloration, sometimes due to healed lesions although it does not leave scars.
What causes eczema? Eczema is an inflammation of the skin with pustules and fluid discharge. The main causes are due to an accumulation of toxins in the body, allergies, faulty body mechanism, varicose veins, cold or dry weather conditions, and deficiencies in nutrition. Most often it occurs on the face, neck, hands, wrists, upper chest, and back of the knees and is not contagious.
Home remedies for eczema: There are many home remedies that will cure eczema on the face. The most effective way to heal eczema is to keep your skin moisturized at all times. It is best to use an emollient-like aqueous cream which will retain natural oils. Use mild odorless soaps with an oil base. Creams or lotions with less water base are effective and do not need repeated application.
Coconut oil promotes healing and keeps the skin soft. Wash your face with gram flour or dry and ground rose petals. Use oatmeal for cleansing and healing the affected areas. Applying a paste made from turmeric powder and leaves of the Indian lilac is very effective in curing eczema. The antibacterial and antiseptic properties aid in the healing. Try steaming with plenty of Indian lilac leaves or add some indian lilac powder in hot water. Papaya seeds can be crushed and applied to cure eczema.
A sunbath can kill the harmful bacteria. Rub nutmeg on a stone with a little water and use the paste to apply on the affected areas. The paste of one teaspoon of sandalwood powder and one teaspoon of camphor is also helpful. Sea water baths are helpful to cure eczema. You can also add Dead Sea salt to your bath water for alleviating eczema as it has antiseptic properties.
Probiotics, like the lactobacillus found in yogurt, are very useful in treating eczema. Take two cups of unflavored yogurt every day to reduce infection and remove toxins. Pat your face dry after washing and do not rub or itch it. Avoid foods that can trigger eczema like dairy products, eggs, peanuts, wheat, and sweet corn. Eat foods rich in vitamins A and E and omega acids for a healthy skin.
