A verruca can be defined as a wart that forms on the bottom of ones foot. Also referred to as plantar warts or verruca plantaris, this condition can cause severe discomfort. Verrucas are circular and slightly raised lesions that have a thick rim or border of surrounding skin. Verrucas are caused by the HPV or human papilloma virus, the same virus that is responsible for causing genital warts. Being highly contagious in nature, it can be spread from one person to the next, either through direct contact or thorough the sharing of clothes, linen, bedding, towels and the like. This particular virus is known to thrive in warm, moist and damp environments, such as swimming pools, bathroom floors and changing rooms. In fact, it is present all around us, and it may be surprising to note that a large number of people tend to carry it on their skin. It does not pose to be a threat unless it penetrates or makes its way into a person’s skin. The virus then multiplies and grows, ultimately leading to the formation of a wart.
Plenty of verruca removal medications are available; however here are a few simple home remedies that can help one get rid of verrucas. Aloe vera gel is considered to be extremely beneficial for this particular condition. Apply a generous layer of the gel over the wart. Leave the application on for about 15-20 minutes, after which rinse it off with lukewarm water. This remedy has to be performed 2-3 times a day on a regular basis till the lesion subsides. Cut a small piece of an over ripe papaya and then smash it. Now apply the thick pulp on the affected area and then bandage the area with a clean cotton cloth. Take the bandage off after about 2 hours and wash the area thoroughly with warm water. Mashed pineapple can be used in a similar manner to get rid of the wart as this too is considered to be an effective in verrucas treatment.
Dip a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and gently dab it on the wart twice a day. Warm a teaspoon of castor oil and then massage it into the wart 2-3 times a day. Again, you will need to bandage the area with a clean piece of cloth for about 2 hours, after which you can rinse the application off with lukewarm water. This is also a great cure for verrucas.
