5 Tips to Stay Fertile

There are many ways to maintain as well as increase fertility. The recommended methods will vary according to the sex of the individual. However there are several generic tips that can be applicable to both.
- First, there are a number of reasons that people are not very fertile – a large number of these are due to current lifestyles and living habits. Fertility levels are decreased due to nicotine and alcohol intake, stress, tight synthetic clothes which prevent the body from breathing, irregular eating habits, sleeping patterns. A few simple changes to your lifestyle and habits will help to deal with these causes of fertility problems. For example, if you are extremely stressed, try and eliminate the reason for the stress. If this is not possible then there are a number of things you can do to deal with the stress such as yoga, support groups, pilates, meditation, and deep breathing exercise.
- If you are a smoker then you will need to stop completely as this reduces your chances of conceiving considerably. Even once you have quit, it is wise to wait for the minimum period of a year before attempting to conceive. Getting pregnant immediately after you quit smoking will leave your baby vulnerable to the residual chemicals from your cigarettes that are still in your system.
- Alcohol consumption should be discontinued as well. The maximum one should have is a glass of red wine on odd days of the week. Thus, three glasses of wine per week is the most you should have if you are trying to improve your fertility. Make sure that you speak to your doctor though before you consume any alcoholic beverages during pregnancy.
- While you should have a healthy, balanced diet there are some additional supplements as well as Vitamins you can take to increase fertility. In the fruit family: oranges, papayas, and other citrus fruit will help to treat fertility problems. You should also have sufficient milk and milk products. You can also steam eggplant and grind this to make a thin paste. Add this paste to a glass of slightly warm milk. Consume this everyday for a period of two months and this will help improve your fertility.
- Try to avoid white bread and white rice and instead switch to brown breads and brown rice. Also, avoid oily and fatty foods and substitute them for grilled and boiled foods which have less oily content. Excessive spiciness in your food should be avoided as well.
