How to cure a yeast infection?

Yeasts are a strain of fungi and as such, yeast infections are fungal infections. They are scientifically referred to as candidiasis as the infections are caused by yeasts of the Candida species. The primary symptoms of a yeast infection are swelling, redness, itching, and discomfort in the affected parts of the body. Yeast infections may also be accompanied by vaginal discharge and pain during sexual intercourse.

You may cure yeast infection or candidiasis by following the home remedies mentioned below:

  • You can opt for aromatherapy treatment to relive the symptoms of a yeast infection. You can use cinnamon bark or tea tree essential oils to treat the affliction. These oils work on the membrane of infectious yeast cells, thereby exposing the cell contents of the yeast to harsh environmental conditions, making it difficult for the organisms to survive.
  • You may also use peppermint oil as an infusion to cure yeast infection.
  • You can apply rosemary oil on the affected areas on account of its antifungal property.
  • You may also use an extract of olive leaves on the parts of the body affected by candida, as olive leaves are supposed to have antimicrobial properties.
  • You may also use Aloe Vera gel on the affected areas to relieve the symptoms of yeast infection.
  • Eat raw garlic everyday as garlic is anti fungal in action. You may also apply garlic juice on the affected areas of the body to cure the infection caused by yeast.
  • You may also apply barberry extract so as to kill the yeast cells and thereby relieve the symptoms of yeast infection.
  • You may also employ oregano oil to treat the infection caused by yeast or candida.
  • Highly diluted thyme oil can also be used to cure the ailment.
  • The best way to cure an infection caused by yeast is to consume a regulated and well balanced detox diet that helps in detoxifying the body, thereby relieving the symptoms of candidiasis. As a part of this detox diet you must eat vegetables like spinach, broccoli, beet, onion, and garlic, fresh fruits, cereals like millet and rice, seeds like flax and pumpkin seeds, nuts like cashew and walnuts, and extra virgin olive oil. Also, you must avoid certain foods like sugar, wheat, dairy products and gluten.

If the signs of the yeast infection prevail, you are advised to visit a doctor.

One of the simplest ways to fight a yeast infection is by drinking an adequate amount of water daily. This helps to flush out all the dirt, toxins and bacteria sitting in and around your genital area. Washing the affected area with warm water multiple times a day also helps to soothe the pain. Another effective way to cure yeast infection is by using plain yogurt. The healthy bacteria in the yogurt helps fight the yeast, however the yogurt has to be plain and unsweetened as sugar feeds yeast. You could also dip a tampon in plain yogurt and place it in the infected region for an hour. This could be repeated twice or thrice a day for two or three days, or as long as needed until the situation resolves itself. Buttermilk, which is made by diluting yogurt with water, is also very useful for fighting yeast infection. Drinking two glasses of Buttermilk everyday, especially in the night, helps to cure the infection. Garlic too provides instant relief and is a big enemy of yeast. You have to make a paste of garlic pods and apply it to the infected area. This may burn slightly, but is very effective. For a vaginal yeast infection, you have to cut a few fine garlic pods, wrap it in cheesecloth and insert into the vagina for about 20 minutes leaving a part of cheesecloth hanging out for easy removal. Washing the affected area with diluted apple cider vinegar is also very effective. Vinegar is known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. This helps in killing the yeast, but it should not be applied directly. The best way to use vinegar is by adding a cup of diluted vinegar into your bathwater, followed by a hot water bath. This will be very soothing and would make you feel relaxed. Honey is probably the stickiest way of curing yeast infection, but applying it externally on the affected area would definitely be helpful. Take half a cup of honey; pour a liberal amount on all affected portions and keep it on for 20 minutes, then wash the area with warm water.

While fighting a yeast infection, you should avoid keeping the infected area moist, as this aggravates the condition. Also avoid wearing tight clothes or clothes made of synthetic material, especially any kind of non cotton underwear, as they trap moisture and heat, creating a perfect environment for yeast to grow.
