Alternative Treatment for Dry Mouth, Thirsty and Sore Tongue
Dry mouth, is also known as xerostomia, this is a condition in which production of saliva shuts down completely. This is a very serious condition because the saliva plays a number of important roles in the day to day functioning of your body. For example, saliva is instrumental in being able to speak or eat. It is also essential in maintaining a healthy oral environment. Dry mouth is caused by various medication, menopause, radiation therapy, and smoking. Dehydration is also one cause of a dry mouth. Apart from a dry mouth, the other symptoms of xerostomia are excessive thirst and a sore tongue.
The first thing that you should do is to ensure that you drink a lot of water. If you are exercising or are going to be out in the sun, it is a good idea to carry a bottle of water along with you. It is also beneficial to suck on the pits of fruits such as peaches, cherries, and nectarines because this will help stimulate the saliva production in your mouth without adding any empty calories. You should avoid drinking all manner of aerated drinks because these drinks are acidic in nature and can harm the teeth because there is no saliva to counter their effect. To treat your sore tongue, you should eat a lot of yogurt and ensure that vitamin C is an essential part of your diet. If your symptoms do not reduce in a few days, please consult a medical practitioner.
