Blisters or mouth sores are a result of improper eating habits, acidity, stress and infection. They are painful, but not a serious issue. Canker sores are yellow boils with a definite border. Acidic and spicy foods also contribute to mouth ulcers. They generally last for three to four days. Sucking an ice cube provides relief. Milk of magnesia is dabbed on the sores with a cotton ball.
Over-the-counter pain killers are available commercially. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol. Hot foods are avoided. Bring them to room temperature or eat them cold. Lead a stress free life, as stress triggers mouth sores. Take care while brushing teeth, as it might worsen the injury. Tomatoes, chocolates, shell fish and nuts are abstained from. Allergy to certain foods also gives rise to mouth ulcers.
Deficiency of B complex vitamins also contribute. Supplements are recommended. Antacids prove beneficial, as they reduce the acidity. Certain mouthwash and toothpastes contain sodium lauryl sulfate. Try avoiding such products, as they increase canker sores. Chickweed and rockrose are herbs that are effective. Yoghurt with active culture is useful. Lactobacillus acidophillus is recommended.
