Gonorrhoea is spread through the contact between mucous membranes and infected body fluids. It is usually transmitted sexually, but in certain cases may be transmitted from public toilets or from infected hands touching moist areas of the body such as the eyes.
The symptoms of Gonorrhoea are:
- Painful and frequent urination for both men and women
- Blood may be seen in discharge and there may be unexplained abdominal cramping or pain
- There may be rectal itching or pain while passing motions
- The mouth or throat may be inflamed and red
- There may be a pus like discharge from the eyes or eyelids may be swollen
- For women there may be abnormal menstrual bleeding
Gonorrhoea is not amenable to home remedies alone. You will need to speak to your doctor to undergo treatment. But some home remedies may help alleviate the symptoms associated with the disease:
- Carrot, beet or spinach juice are said to be useful
- Amaranth is a well known remedy for gonorrhoea. About 25 gms of Amaranth leaves may be consumed thrice a day.
- Soaking in a hot bath helps relieve pelvic pain and irritation
- Applying hot compresses to the pelvic area will help relieve pain
- Some herbs may help ameliorate symptoms. Kelp, Calendula or myrrh may be taken internally or used as a douche
- Supplementing with zinc and selenium will help boost the immune system
Please try to avoid unprotected sexual activity in the future and until you are fully cured, avoid sexual intercourse. If you are in a monogamous relationship and frequently have unprotected sex, please get your partner tested as well. Otherwise you risk infecting each other back and forth.
