The loss of voice can take place either due to throat infection, colds or sometime abuse or over use of the vocal cords. In any case hoarseness and loss of voice is termed as Laryngitis. Under any given circumstance, do not attempt to make noises or talk to check whether you have regained your voice. Let it rest for a few days. If the loss has been caused due to a cold, then the best way to flush out the bacteria is by taking a good swig of salt water gargle. A saltwater gargle aids in the healing of infectious and swollen vocal cords and also helps heal sore throats. Take half a teaspoon of salt and stir it in a cup of warm water. Gargle as many times as possible during the course of the day. However do not attempt to use more than half a teaspoon of salt as the more salty the water the greater is the chance of further aggravation or irritation in the throat.
During the following few days consume good amounts of ginger tea with lemon and honey. Take fresh or dried ginger root and steep in a pot of just boiled water. Cover the vessel and let it infuse for the next 20 minutes. Add to this herbal tea one teaspoon of honey and the juice of a freshly squeezed half-lemon. Sip this tea five or six times during the day. You will be able to regain your voice in a couple of days.
