Windburn is a condition that affects people who remain outdoors in a cold and dry weather and are probably exposed to cold and strong winds for an extended duration. Windburn just does not affect the face; it could affect any part of the body that is exposed. Before you step out in cold or dry weather, you can take the following precautions to avoid getting a windburn:
- Before you step outdoors, try to keep yourself covered as much as you can. Use a hood or a ski mask to cover up your ears.
- For protecting your hands, you could wear gloves.
- You might usually miss on protecting the front part of your neck, so you can either wrap a terry cloth towel, instead of a woollen scarf, around your neck. As an alternative, you could also wear a turtleneck made of cotton and not wool or synthetic fabric.
- Wear goggles or sunglasses to protect your eyes from the winds.
- For your lips, you could use a lip balm that has some sunscreen in it.
- For protecting your skin on the whole, you can use a sunscreen that has some sort of moisturizer in it or a sunscreen and a moisturizer.
