There are several great ways to practice birth control these days. It of course is dependent on your gender.
For men:
- Condoms are the most popular form of contraception. This latex balloon-shaped object is easy to wear, cheap and available readily. This is the preferred way to practice safe, HIV-free sex too.
- Vasectomy is a minor surgery where the vas deferentia is severed to prevent the exit of the sperm. This is a 100% sure method to control birth. It is also irreversible.
- Coitus interruptus is the least successful form, but if you are ever caught in the heat of the moment without contraception, make sure you practice this. Coitus means sex and interruptus stands for stop. So, Coitus Interruptus is just a fancy way of saying that the man does not realize the sperm inside the woman, but instead does so outside.
For women:
- Condoms are now available for women too.
- The pill is another common way for women to hormonally control birth. While the pill provides a high degree of control, it does have side effects sometimes, so please use this method only after consulting with your physician.
- A T-shaped copper object is also a form of contraception. It is inserted inside the uterus. The spermicidal effect of the metal kills off any sperm that is ejaculated into the woman.
All the best!
