Infection in the bladder, urinary tract and urethra is termed broadly as urinary tract infection. Burning sensation while urinating, persistent urge to urinate, blood in urine or hematuria, cloudy urine and frequent urination are the typical symptoms of urinary tract infection. Cystitis, urethritis and acute pyelonephritis are various forms of urinary tract infection. The entire course of antibiotic is to be completed. Allergy to any medication is mentioned. Hospitalization is required in case of sever infection. Emptying the bladder after intercourse is effective. Adequate intake of water proves beneficial in warding off infection. Cranberry juice proves effective in fighting infection. A full glass of water is recommended after intercourse. Harsh and irritating chemicals are avoided, such as deodorants, douches or powders in the private areas. Half a teaspoon of baking soda in eight ounces of water increases the acid base balance, thereby reducing infection. Equal proportions of essential oils, such as bergamot, juniper, tea tree and sandalwood prove beneficial against UTI. Fresh berry juice is an effective remedy. Goldenseal or echinacea are herbal remedies and around two capsules per day are recommended.
