A broken finger requires immediate attention. Injury might result in a fracture. Identify the severity of injury. Avoid moving the finger for a while. Support the broken finger with a splinter and tie it firmly. This enables rest for the injured finger; thereby worsening of infection is prevented. If you fail to identify any splinters for support, tape the adjacent finger with the injured finger. Place ice compress on the broken finger to curtail infection and inflammation.
