My peroid last only for 1 to 2 days. How do i normalise it to 5 days ?

A normal menstrual cycle is believed to consist of 28 days, however, this differs from woman to woman. Some women may experience a 20 menstrual cycle, while others may experience a 35 day menstrual cycle. You need to determine the number of days that pass between each period. If the number of days is roughly the same between cycles, then the periods are regular. Normal periods generally continue for five days, although periods that take place between three to seven days are also considered normal. Since your periods last for only a day or two, it is better to consult a gynecologist just to make sure that there is no underlying cause.

Irregular periods affect a large number of women. When bleeding begins to occur in a manner different from the woman’s normal menstrual cycle, it is termed as irregular. Irregular periods could mean periods with a late or early onset. Bleeding that occurs between periods is also termed as irregular. If the menstrual flow suddenly becomes heavy or scanty, then too it constitutes an irregular period.  Some women may also experience missed periods, continuous flow between periods or more than one period in a single cycle. Irregularity is more of a cause for concern than the actual length of your period.

Irregularities in the menstrual cycle may occur due to hormonal fluctuations in the body. Menstruation takes place due to the action of the hormones estrogen and progesterone among others. The production of these hormones is regulated by the ovaries, pituitary gland and the hypothalamus. These areas of the body transmit signals to each other, which trigger the process of ovulation and subsequently menstruation. If there is some problem in the transmission of these signals, it could lead to irregular periods. Stress is a common cause of irregular periods as it causes an imbalance of the hormonal levels in the body. Improper dietary habits that provide an inadequate amount of nutrition to the body are also likely to lead to changes in the menstrual cycle. Sudden loss or gain of weight increases the possibility of irregularities in the menstrual cycle. Strenuous physical activity such as heavy exercise can also cause disruptions in menstruation. Menopause leads to many changes in the monthly period until it stops completely. Intake of birth control pills affects hormonal levels in the body and as such affects the menstrual cycle as well.

If you are facing a sudden change in your menstrual cycle, then it is important to determine the factors that have led to it. If stress levels are high, then try relaxation or mediation. Also ensure that you are eating properly. Cut back on any intense exercising that you may be doing. For scanty periods, having ginger tea is known to be beneficial. You can also crush some sesame seeds; add it to warm water and drink this liquid on a daily basis for a couple of days before you expect your period. The juice of parsley or carrot is also effective in treating scanty periods. Consuming papaya on a regular basis is very effective in stimulating proper menstrual cycles. Herbal teas are also believed to be helpful in regulating menstruation.
