Can i cut my piles off
(Last Updated: Dec 19, 2007)
Piles or hemorrhoids are swollen and inflamed veins in the lower rectum and anus. Certain conditions cause the enlargement and dilation of these veins. Piles can be of two types, internal and external. Internal piles develop inside the rectum and are characterized by blood discharge. External piles are visible outside the anus. These cause pain, but may not bleed. An individual can also suffer from a combination of internal and external piles. Hemorrhoids develop in various stages or grades. First grade piles occur inside the anal canal. Second grade piles extend outwards from the anus when the bowels are open and retreat back inside on their own later. Third grade piles also protrude outside the anus, but need to be gently pushed back inside. Fourth grade piles remain outside the anus. The most commonly occurring piles are those of the second grade and third grade type.
The symptoms of piles include itching, swelling, pain and soreness in the anal region. There may also be mucus or blood discharge. Hemorrhoids usually develop due to improper dietary habits or inactive lifestyles. Long hours of sitting without adequate physical exercise can result in improper bowel movements. The constipation and subsequent straining that result from these factors are likely to result in piles. Bowel movements may sometimes be disrupted due to excessive stress, thereby leading to constipation. Hemorrhoids also usually develop during pregnancy due to the pressure of the growing fetus on the blood vessels in the lower rectum. The strain that is exerted during child birth can also sometimes put pressure on the veins, thereby resulting in piles.
If you suffer from piles, you need to consult a doctor who will prescribe the right course of treatment for you. By no means can you cut them off yourself, as this will lead to profuse bleeding and infection. You can instead try out any of a number of natural remedies that are effective in reducing the symptoms of piles. Add some black mustard powder to yogurt and consume this for relief from piles. Drinking a glass of buttermilk to which ground pepper, ginger and salt have been added is also beneficial in treating hemorrhoids. Radish is known to be extremely effective in treating piles. White radish juice can be mixed with honey and applied to the anal area. Applying coconut oil to the affected area will also help to soothe the discomfort. Having mashed ripe banana and milk also helps to relieve the pain caused by hemorrhoids.

Certainly not! Do not ever attempt anything of the sort. piles also commonly known as hemorrhoids, is a condition in which the veins and tissues in the rectum and anus become inflamed and swollen. You cannot simply cut off a piece of your body because it is troubling you. In rare cases, the hemorrhoids are cut off in a surgical procedure, but even this is not something that is approached lightly. Surgery is considered a last resort in treating hemorrhoids. Initially, simple home remedies and lifestyle measures are used, and in the majority of cases, this treatment is effective enough. Even if such measures do not work, there are many other treatments that can be tried before you consider surgical removal of the hemorrhoids.
Probably the main cause of piles is a poor diet and this is the area you must first address. The most important thing is to ensure that you get enough dietary fiber. A lack of fiber in the diet can lead to constipation and frequent constipation can eventually lead to hemorrhoids, due to the constant straining while passing stools. You need to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grain on a daily basis. If necessary, you can also take a fiber supplement, in the form of psyllium husk or flax seed. If you find that your constipation does not ease up in spite of the dietary changes described, you should take at least one serving of ground flax or psyllium husk a day. Also ensure that you drink enough water; dehydration results in hard stools and constipation. Never take laxatives unless your doctor has recommended them. These are to be used only in very severe cases. Regular use of laxatives will only make you dependent on them and worsen the problem.
At the same time, frequent diarrhea can also cause hemorrhoids to develop. If this seems to be the case, you need to figure out the cause of the diarrhea. You may be suffering from some sort of digestive problem, or you may simply be allergic to some food. It is advisable that you consult a doctor and get the problem treated.
If your hemorrhoids are painful, you can apply a tiny amount of witch hazel or aloe vera gel on them. However, topical treatment is merely symptomatic, and does not solve the problem. Successful treatment of hemorrhoids must address the causes. Even if your problem is severe and requires surgery, post-surgery changes to your diet and lifestyle are essential.
