Along with the medications try the following home remedies to get rid of the urine infection
- Check your child's fluid consumption, is it low? Does he feel less urge to visit the bathroom? If so to cure the urine infection and to avoid its relapse in future it is very important to increase the amount of fluids in the day. This can be done in the form of boiled water, unsweetened fruit juices, vegetable juices, coconut water, and barley water. The extra fluid will help to dilute and flush the unwanted substances (toxins) from his body.
- Give him more milk, buttermilk, plain yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables. This will help to create an alkaline environment in the bladder.
- Cranberry juice is beneficial in fighting urine infection. If he doesn't like the taste you can mix apple juice for palatability.
- Avoid giving him cheese, chocolates, artificial sweeteners (many times present in low fat sodas and colas) spicy, oily foods, and carbonated drinks.
- Maintain proper hygiene, make sure he changes his underwear daily and avoid tight fitted clothes.
