Blood loss occurs due to menstruation, anemia, frequent blood donations, surgery, and accidents. In case of severe case of blood loss, blood transfusions can be a help. In minor cases, changes in diet can bring about increase in the blood level in the body.

- Consume foods that are rich in iron and folic acid. Stress on Vitamin C rich foods as it can enhance the absorption of iron in the body. Have citrus fruits, guava that is rich in Vitamin C. These foods are useful for those having heavy menstruation and suffering from anemia.
- Vitamin E as an antioxidant helps in reducing the oxidation of red cells. Consume more of vegetable oils rather than animal fats.
- Protein helps in improving the protein structure of hemoglobin. Hence have sprouts, pulses that are rich in protein.
- Wheat grass and spirulina contain chlorophyll that can retain the red blood cells and thus improve the hemoglobin content in the body.
- Blood donors can have coconut water which can be used as replenishment for blood loss.
