A joint cramp is a spontaneous, constant contraction of one or more of your joint muscles. This can result in severe pain and also inhibit movement of that particular joint. These can occur in your leg joints or finger joints.
Researches and studies have revealed that joint cramps are mainly caused due to abnormal processing of electrolytes that are essential for vital body functions. Studies indicate that along with electrolytes, vitamins and minerals are essential for body system and play a vital role in regulating all the basic functions of the human body. A deficiency in any one of the essential vitamins and minerals may result in health disorder and hamper the normal body functions including the activity of joint muscles. It is said that mineral depletion especially depletion or deficiency of potassium, magnesium and calcium contribute to joint cramps. This depletion can be a result of unhealthy dietary habits or due to certain diuretic medications. Vitamin E and Vitamin B 6 also plays a major role in stimulating the performance and strengthening joint muscles.
Other causes of joint cramps include overuse of a particular joint, more stress or pressure exerted on the joint, dehydration, inadequate blood supply, leg or finger injury or muscle strain.
