A mild infection of any tooth can be taken care of by simple home remedies. However, if the pain persists for more than a week, it is better to see a dentist, or you may risk losing your tooth. Rinse your mouth out with hydrogen peroxide followed with a warm salt water rinse. This will kill the infection and also help temporarily control the pain. If the pain persists, however, use chilled hydrogen peroxide for rinsing, and skip the warm rinse.
The extract of vanilla or almond works to numb the pain. You can apply the extract directly to the affected tooth. A time tested method for dealing with tooth-ache is applying clove oil to a paining tooth. If clove oil is not available, then simple clamp a clove down on that tooth and leave it there. Tea tree oil is anti-fungal and antiseptic. Stir in one teaspoon in a cup of water and swish it about in the mouth, repeating every other hour. This will help kill the infection over time. Echinacea, formerly called the "toothache plant" can work miracles. If it is available in tablet form, it can be taken as per dosage, or if the extract or oil is available, it can be applied directly to the tooth. Turmeric powder can be used as tooth powder to fight infection.
