what can you do for a sty in the corner of your eye?

Sty remedies

A stye is basically a bacterial infection of one of the sebaceous glands at the base of an eyelash. Styes are often confused with chalazions — this is a cyst in the eyelid, caused by the blockage of an oil gland. Both are relatively harmless (although uncomfortable) and disappear on their own, without treatment. Styes take approximately a week to heal, while a cyst may take several months. Another difference is that cysts are relatively painless, while styes can be quite painful.

There are a number of home remedies that are commonly recommended for styes, but most of these are useless and unnecessary. Gold, baby’s urine, the hair of a cat’s tail, and several others are more folk tales than home remedies. However, due to the naturally short duration of a stye, people tend to attribute the healing of styes to such techniques. A hot or warm compress though can help both a stye and a cyst. This will ease the pain and discomfort and also accelerate the healing process. In the case of a stye, you can even pluck pluck the eyelash. Be very careful when doing this, and be sure to cleanse the eyelid and eye afterwards. If your stye or cyst is particularly painful or persistent, you should consider visiting your doctor.
