(Last Updated: Jan 28, 2008)
Eosinophilic Bronchitis is a type of bronchitis that refers to an inflammation of the airways. This disease affects all the sizes of airways and results in blockage, cough and difficulty breathing. This health condition can be effectively treated using the following natural treatments:
Malabar nut is a great remedy for curing cough. This can be taken in the form of juice, paste, powder, clarified butter, wine, syrup or linctus. Leaves of these nuts are not juicy; therefore it has to be dried in shade before use. You can add honey while consuming Malabar nuts because the actual taste is very bitter. Clerodendrum Serratum is also an effective plant for cough treatment. You can consume this in the form of juice, powder or decoction. To prepare a paste, you need to grind the leaves, roots and stem bark of the herb and blend it with water. Juice is often extracted form fresh leaves. Soak leaves in water and then squeeze juice using a good strainer. The juice can be used externally also. Strain the decoction and use it. Mix water and sugar to the powdered roots of this herb and boil the solution. This makes good syrup for bronchitis.

Bronchitis that is eosinophilic would be chronic bronchitis, as opposed to acute bronchitis, which is caused by viruses or bacteria. Chronic bronchitis is not necessarily caused by infection - the most common cause is smoking. Treatment includes antibiotics, bronchodilators, and corticosteroids. You should discuss these measures with your family doctor.
Apart from medical treatment, the first thing you should do, if you have not already done so, is to quit smoking. If you've been smoking for a long time, a complete recovery might not be possible, but you will notice the benefits all the same. If you spend a lot of time around smokers, that too could aggravate your condition. Get them to stop or else avoid their company, at least while they're smoking. A home remedy that you can try is turmeric powder in hot milk. Heat about glass of milk with half a teaspoon of turmeric powder in it. You can also fry a little turmeric powder in a pan with half a teaspoon of butter. Steam inhalation also helps - the steam will help loosen up the mucus and get rid of it. If you feel that you do not get enough relief through these measures, be sure to visit your doctor.
