According to Ayurvedic medicine a persistent severe cold is a result of an imbalance in the physical system. The cold symptoms show up when your body develops excess of moist characteristics. This causes nose congestion, runny nose and sneezing. Drink lots of warm liquids like vegetable soups and herbal teas. Increase the intake of Vitamin C rich diet. Avoid starchy foods, meat, eggs and fish.
- Ginger is an effective remedy for cold as it reduces excess moisture in the body. Put half a teaspoon of ginger powder, cinnamon and fennel seeds to a cup of boiled water. Add a pinch of clove powder to it. Let the herbs brew for a few minutes. Filter it into a cup, and drink this tea for about 3-4 times daily.
- Mix half a teaspoon of ginger juice to 1 tablespoon of gooseberry juice. Mix it well before you gulp it down. This is a valuable remedy that prevents reappearance of cold.
- There are herbs that restore a balance in the physical system like cinnamon, cloves and basil. Take 3 to 4 teaspoons of one of these herbs in powdered form. Put the herb in a cup of hot water and add honey to it before you drink it. Alternatively you can add these herbs to your meals.
