External piles is characterised by a lot of pain, but there is not much bleeding. There is however a heavy discharge of blood in the case of internal piles. Soreness and irritation along with pain are commonly felt when passing stools. Sitting down can be extremely uncomfortable due to itching and pain around the rectum.
Chronic constipation and bowel disorders are the main causes of piles. Straining to pass a stool when constipated, puts pressure on the surrounding veins contributing to and aggravating the problem. Prolonged periods of sitting or standing and strenuous work or obesity and general weakness of tissues are among some of the other causes.
There are a number of home remedies that can help give relief and address the problem. Figs are widely regarded as being very effective in treating piles. The seeds in the fruit are extremely beneficial as they stimulate peristaltic movement of the intestines, facilitating easy removal of faeces and keeping the alimentary canal clean. This relieves the pressure on the anus allowing the hemorrhoids to contract. Apart from figs, there are other fruits and vegetables that are extremely beneficial like radish, turnip, bitter gourd, etc.
