Severe case of sneezing with a lot of congestion.

Chest congestion home remedies

Sneezing and congestion can be caused due to viral infections, common cold, change in weather or even allergies. In case of the latter it is crucial to isolate the allergen and remove it from your environment completely. If that is not possible, for example with dust or pollen in the air, then it is advised to reduce contact with the allergen as far as possible and cover your nose when you are stepping into the area where the allergen is usually found. In case of a viral infection, common cold or change in weather, increase your intake of Vitamin C in fresh fruits and vegetables to help combat the virus and bacteria in your system and put a stop to the sneezing attacks and congestion.

It is extremely important to stay warm so that your system can concentrate its energies on fighting the infection rather than fighting the cold. Exercise and a diet rich in Vitamins found in fresh fruits and vegetables also help to fight infections. Consume plenty of water, fresh fruit juice, hot tea and chicken soup to keep your body hydrated and restore the vitamin and nutrient balance in your system. Hot soup laced with pepper helps to unblock congestion as well as some tea prepared with basil leaves. You can also take a vaporising treatment by inhaling steam with a few drops of eucalyptus oil to get rid of congestion.

Sneezing and congestion remedies

Sneezing and congestion are normal symptoms of the common cold, although sneezing, particularly long sneezing fits, could indicate the presence of an allergic condition. In any case, there are several traditional remedies for the common cold that can provide a good deal of relief.

It might not be possible to really stop the sneezing, but you can lessen by using one of these techniques - avoid lying flat, as this will increase congestion as well as sneezing; and hold your breath for a few seconds when you feel the urge to sneeze beginning. One important caution however - never stop a sneeze. As long as there is only a tickle in your nose, you can try to hold back the sneeze as long as you like, but once the sneeze actually starts, forcing it back can cause serious damage.

Steam inhalation is also very helpful, to reduce both sneezing and nasal congestion. You can also create a home made nasal spray using a couple of teaspoons of salt in a glass of water. You can use a dropper or spray to insert the solution in your nasal passages. In addition, make sure that you are drinking enough water, as dehydration can worsen the congestion.
