Causes and Treatment for Cardiomegaly
Cardiomegaly or an enlargement of the heart is a symptom of some other problem, and is not a disease or condition in itself. If you know you have an enlarged heart, this was quite certainly detected through some tests or by your doctor during a physical examination. If the doctor has not yet detected the cause of the enlargement, you should return for further tests and investigation. Enlargement of the heart can occur due to a number of reasons, and the only way to detect the cause is for a doctor to personally investigate your case. There is no quick or simple way to detect such a problem, and this forum cannot diagnose it. Treatment of course can only be recommended after the cause has been determined.
The possible causes of heart enlargement include several diseases and conditions, such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, damage to heart muscle from a heart attack or a viral infection that reaches the heart, and thyroid disease. Obesity and a lack of exercise can lead to some of these conditions, and even otherwise increase the risk of heart enlargement. As you can see, all of these problems are extremely serious, so you should waste no time in getting a diagnosis and beginning treatment.
