Tuberculosis is an extremely serious disease that, in spite of efforts across the world to eradicate it, is still frighteningly common and affects people in near epidemic proportions in some parts of the world. The disease mainly affects the lungs and involves coughing (often of blood), fever, chest pain, weight loss, fatigue, and sometimes also the bones and the nervous system.
Antibiotics are a must for treating tuberculosis, and while there are some home remedies that may help, these are not meant to be substitutes. Relying only on home remedies to treat such a serious disease can be fatal. It is also important to follow your doctor's advice diligently, and take the prescribed dose of medicines for as long as your doctor advises you to take them. The bacteria remains in the body for a long time after the symptoms have stopped and the active infection has been treated, and if you stop treatment too early, the infection will recur and be much more difficult to treat.
Non medical treatment basically consists of ensuring that you get adequate rest and nutrition. Avoid the usual harmful stuff — tobacco, alcohol, coffee — and make sure that you get enough protein, as it is particularly important in fighting tuberculosis.
