Burning feet syndrome causes and remedies

Burning feet syndrome is also known as the Grierson-Gopalan Syndrome, named after the two scientists who medically discovered and defined the disease. It is a medical condition that causes extreme burning, stinging and aching of the feet, especially the soles. It is sometimes accompanied by redness and swelling. It is usually manifested by excessive sweating of the feet, and sometimes also extends to the ankles and calves, though this is very rare. It is commoner in women, and usually occurs between the ages of 25 to 45. This condition is usually aggravated at night, when the burning is most strongly felt. It can be inherited as well, or it can be a side effect of other diseases such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, alcoholism, arthritis or rheumatism.

If you have this problem, it is best to get it examined by a doctor as soon as possible and run tests in order to determine the cause of the problem. Do remember that it could be a symptom of something else, more serious as well. There is a proper discourse of treatment to be followed in case you need to cure the problem of burning feet only. For immediate relief, you can keep your feet dipped in icy cold water for as long as you can take it. This will take away the discomfort momentarily.
