Colitis refers to the inflammation of the colon. The colon is also known as the large intestine. This part of your body is a long and muscular tube which gets the undigested food. The colon removes the water from the undigested food, stores this water and then gets rid of the waste. The waste is removed from the body through bowel movements. If you are suffering from Lymphocytic colitis, this probably means that your colon is inflamed. You will experience pain the abdomen, recurring diarrhea and in extreme cases even bleeding from the rectum.
There are several reasons for Lymphocytic colitis. Sometimes medication can cause this condition to develop though the most common reason is infection. People suffering from Lymphocytic colitis also exhibit other abnormal conditions. In several cases they have edema, or bleeding. When a person suffers from Edema or has an inflammation of the lining of the colon, this condition interferes with the ability of the colon to absorb water from the undigested food. This water, which has not been absorbed, goes out of the rectum. This is diarrhea. in some cases the diarrhea also has pus and fluid in it. People who suffer from Lymphocytic colitis are advised to reduce their intake of caffeine, fat, lactose and painkillers. It is also advisable to consult your doctor about your condition.
