Moles are made up of clusters of nevus cells which contain melanin and are usually pigmented but benign tumours. However sometimes moles can become malignant and this is a rare type of skin cancer known as melanoma which requires removal of the mole by surgery. A mole that is blackish in colour and is raised and rough may be malignant and should be tested and removed. If the mole is rubbed and subject to irritation from bands and belts then there is a higher risk of it turning malignant and it should be removed.
Apart from this, if a mole is posing a problem aesthetically or otherwise irritating, there are several simple home remedies to get rid of moles. You can soak a piece of gauze in a mixture of baking soda and castor oil and tape this over your mole overnight. Covering the mole with a cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar for 15-20 minutes, after soaking it in water for 15-20 minutes is also beneficial. Another effective remedy is rubbing a fresh clove of garlic or iodine on the mole and letting it soak in. A few days later the mole should disappear. Grape fruit seed extract can be applied to the mole and covered with a band-aid, to lighten the mole and get rid of it. The best cure for moles, however is consumption of adequate potassium and apple cider vinegar.
