Remedies for hyperacidity and causes of distress and choking due to gas

Your description of your problem is not very clear - it seems to be a problem of gastric acid reflux, but your mentioning of gas is causing some confusion. If you have been experiencing frequent heartburn - a burning, uncomfortable, and sometimes painful sensation, in your chest near the breastbone, the problem is quite certainly acid reflux. The condition is known as gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, and is the result of gastric acid from the stomach rising into the esophagus. In addition to the heartburn, you may also experience difficulty swallowing, as well as nausea and a cough due to the constant irritation.

Acid reflux can mostly be managed by controlling your diet and lifestyle. You should avoid eating oily, fatty, and spicy foods as much as possible, and keep your meals small. Instead of eating two or three large meals a day, you should eat around 5 small meals. Your last meal should also not be too close to bed time, as lying down soon after eating tends to make the gastric acid rise even more. You should also try to elevate the head of your bed; this provides relief to most people. In addition, you should avoid smoking and drinking alcohol and colas, as these tend to aggravate the problem.
