Generally the pain from any kidney disorder will be felt around the back, on one or both sides of the spine towards the lower edge of your ribs. Kidney pain is usually sharp and severe, and occurs in waves.
Pain caused by a kidney disorder is unlikely to be of the dull aching kind, and pain in the lower or middle of the back is not necessarily caused by a kidney disorder. It could also be because of a problem with the ligaments, muscles, or even discs and vertebrae of the spinal column. If the pain you experience is aggravated by movement and relieved with heat or a massage it is more likely to be musculoskeletal pain.
Kidney pain could be caused by kidney stones, kidney infection or pyelonephritis. It could also be caused by bleeding within the kidney, which could be because of an injury, or infarction of the kidney, which is a condition in which a blockage of an artery results in a sudden cut off of the blood supply to the kidney. It is important that your treatment addresses the kidney disorder not just the resulting pain and so It is imperative that you visit a doctor for an accurate diagnosis so that the treatment can address the cause of the pain.
There are however some additional measures that you could follow that are effective for kidney problems, whether an infection or a kidney stone problem. The most important of all would be to increase your consumption of water and any other fluids. Try to add foods like water melons and cucumbers to your diet as they have a very high water content along with other vital nutrients. If your problem stems from kidney stones, and they are not big enough to obstruct the flow of urine, your increased consumption of fluids alone should be enough to remedy the problem.
