When you have a sore throat you find that you experience pain while swallowing. You could also experience other symptoms like a scratchy feeling your throat. In some cases the infection spreads to the ears and your hearing may be affected. A sore throat means that your body has some kind of infection and the creation of mucous is the body's reaction to this. It may be accompanied by a low grade fever and a running nose. However, these usually last only a couple of days at the very most. if, however, your sore throat lasts for an inordinately long time and shows no indication of getting cured, then it is advisable to consult your doctor.
The first thing that you should remember when you have a sore throat is that you should avoid eating anything cold, including cold water, ice cream and cold drinks. You should ensure that you eat food that is hot and can soothe your throat. Drink soups and eat hot fresh food. Sipping warm water will soothe your throat. You can make a delicious tasting infusion by adding the juice of half a lemon to this water. Add a tablespoon of honey too. Gargling with warm water will help you too. Usually people add a pinch of salt. You can also add a pinch of turmeric to the water that you use to gargle.
Ginger is generally beneficial in treating sore throats and you can chop fresh ginger into tiny pieces, boil these in a cup of water and strain. You can drink this with honey too. You can also eat a couple of cloves of garlic with your food. If you can't bear the thought of doing this, you should crush them and boil them in one cup of milk till the milk is reduced to half. Drink this milk at bedtime.
