Anemia is generally known as and perceived to be a condition which indicates a less than normal hemoglobin count. This means that the blood does not have enough healthy red blood cells (RBCs) to fulfill all its functions and duties. Since RBCs are the main carriers of fresh oxygen to all the organs of the body, a lack of these would hamper this process considerably and put the proper functioning of all these organs in peril as well. Overt symptoms of anemia will only show up when all other organs start malfunctioning to some extent. Only some of these overt symptoms are clammy skin, tiredness and fatigue, dark, sticky, brown, bloody or smelly stools, palpitations, shallow breathing, weakness, which is almost always accompanied by weight loss, fainting spells, bodily cramps and in some rare cases, insomnia. Of course, one person could not possibly suffer from all these symptoms. Different ones manifest themselves in different people.
In order to take care of anemia at home, you would have to begin with eating a diet that is rich in iron. Anemia signifies a typical lack of iron in the body. Include lots of leafy greens in your diet in every meal. Increase your intake of salads as well, as these will lead to addition of iron to your diet. Milk and milk products can also be taken liberally to ensure that you receive some amount of good health and vitality from other nutrients as well. Red meat is also considered to be a very rich source of iron, and it can be added to your diet as generously as you would like. In addition to all this, it is always advisable to take iron supplements which will better your health, since these are usually sources of iron that is directly absorbable in the body.
