I'm 27 year old, a year ago I started having my cycle every 2 weeks. My doctor put me on birth control.

Irregular periods are quite a common problem and can be the cause of various conditions like obesity, iron deficiency, thyroid problems, diabetes, excessive exercising, drastic weight loss or stress. Changing contraceptive pills could also cause interference, disturbing the normal menstrual pattern. Irregular periods can also cause delays in conceiving. Anyone with a menstrual history that shows a long history of irregularity over a period of a year or more or is irregular in the sense that there is no bleeding often for months, excessive bleeding, or breakthough bleeding that has continued for many cycles, or unusually painful periods generally needs professional care.

In your case the prescribed medication is not the best option and can in fact be bad for you. I would recommend that you visit a professional natural therapist, like a fertility counselor or other natural therapists particularly herbalists or naturopaths who have experience dealing with menstrual problems so that they can prescribe medications that can help restore the natural rhythm. This is often the safest way to overcome and restore your condition.

The pill or birth control medication, as you have been prescribed or any other hormonal contraception will restore your cycle but this would not be a normal menstrual cycle as your natural hormonal balance is overridden by the hormones in it. The bleeding that you experience while on the pill is unnatural and not a true period. Using birth control is only a temporary solution as it will not solve your hormonal balance and your irregular periods, and the irregularity will continue once you get off the medication or even worsen

Tea made with fresh ginger and a little sugar, can help regulate periods and should be had at least twice or thrice a day. Your diet is also extremely important and it would be a good idea to cut out any fast foods and follow a healthy nourishing diet that meets all your body's needs. Avoid skipping meals and make sure that there is some regularity.
