Preventing Mosquito Bites Naturally

I have a seven month old daughter and I want a natural way to repel mosquitoes this summer. Please help.

Seven-month old daughters are sure not to like mosquitoes, least of all mosquito bites. And so, Mother Nature has made available a number of natural repellents that you can use to keep the mosquitoes away from your seven-month old bundle of joy. One such herbal mosquito repellent involves a mixture of two and a half teaspoons of basil and cedar wood. With these, you need to mix a cup of 190-proof grain alcohol. Mix these ingredients well and pour them into jar that can be fitted with an airtight lid. Once this is done, shake the jar vigorously.

Once the mixture is prepared, you can transfer it into several small bottles for the purposes of storage. When needed, apply a small quantity of the concoction all over the infant's body. As a measure of precaution, you can first test whether the infant is not allergic to the oil, and then accordingly use the repellent. Besides basil and cedar wood, you can also use citronella and juniper. This aside, you can also prepare a natural mosquito repellent by using myrrh and palmarosa. Pine, rose geranium, and rosemary are other ingredients can also be used as mosquito repellents.

All this aside, make sure you do not use floral fragrances and fragrances that smell like fruit. These types of fragrances attract mosquitoes. Also, remember to avoid fabric softeners that have the essence of floral and fruity fragrances. Another useful natural substance that you can use to repel mosquitoes is garlic. It's been known to be used to deal with the menace of mosquitoes for ages. The strong smell that garlic emits does overwhelm the sense of smell of mosquitoes and in so doing, drives them away.

Lastly, you can also use the paste made from leaves of neem, scientifically known as Azadirachta indica. This paste has been used quite commonly in the Asian countries to shun mosquitoes away.
