(Last Updated: Nov 18, 2008)
When your menstrual cycle is on, you can do almost any type of exercise your body permits you to do. It is a common myth and gross misconception that women cannot do any exercise when suffering from their monthly period. As a matter of fact, remaining active will not only help you get your mind off the discomfort, it will also help to make your body stronger and more able to deal with the general discomfort caused by the onset of the monthly menstrual cycle. More than anything, yoga is the best form of exercise you can do to help your body fight the pain and discomfort generally experienced by all women during this trying time. Walking is also equally effective. If you can take a brisk walk for about 30 minutes everyday, you will notice that you are feeling better. Even the general cramps accompanied with the menstrual cycle will recede quite quickly and not return to bother you. There are also some more simple measures you can adopt to take better care of yourself when you have your monthly period. One of the most effective ways to not only facilitates proper bleeding but also to contribute towards weight loss is to drink hot water at least four times a day when you have your monthly period. The hot water will go a long way towards easing your pain and discomfort as well.
You should also know that yoga is the best form of exercise to follow when you are having your monthly menstrual cycle. This is gentle exercise but at the same time very effective. If you have been following any sort of yoga as a routine form of exercise, it is really important that you do not stop for the few days you have your monthly period. This will disrupt your routine and will also reverse the effectiveness of your exercise and any other weight loss attempts you may be following. You should also help yourself in other ways when you have your monthly period. Try to keep yourself occupied. It is generally true that if you lie around too much, you will not only begin to notice, but also feel the pain more strongly. A healthy body is always complemented by a healthy mind. And this combination can only be achieved if you keep both your mind as well as your body occupied, especially when you are experiencing the discomfort of the monthly period.
