Feels Like I Have Strained Both My Hamstrings At Once. Kindly Suggest Some Remedies.
(Last Updated: Nov 30, 2008)
A pulled hamstring can be really painful, and if you do not do something about it immediately, it can cause pain and discomfort for weeks. The treatment of the hamstring depends on the severity of the pulled muscle. If there is a break in the skin, or bleeding and swelling, the treatment may have to be a little more intensive. If this happens while you are engaged in any kind of physical activity, you should immediately stop and take a break.
You can use a compressive bandage to control the inflammation in the muscles. Sometimes the spasms are so severe that you may need to walk with the help of crutches. The symptoms may not steadily resolve themselves if the pain is more severe. You could use some ice on the injured area to control the inflammation. If the pain is not very severe, you may stretch the hamstrings. Stretching is typically the best pulled hamstring muscle treatment.
For pulled hamstring recovery, you may have to massage the area where you feel the pain. You may also need to seek some kind of physical therapy. Gentle stretching of the muscles can help relax them and remove the tension of the muscles. If the pain is still not relieved, you would have to go o the doctor for a check-up.

How to heal a pulled hamstring. Any cures for it?
Healing a pulled hamstring may take some time. A lot of times, the treatment is not as simple as you would think. However, if you start treatment immediately, it may not become complicated. Pulled hamstring is a condition that occurs mostly in athletes and those who are physically very active.
The first step towards the treatment for a pulled hamstring is protection from further injuries and pain. Stop performing the strenuous activity that caused the strain in the first place. Rest is the second step for treatment. If the muscle is torn or damaged due to the spasms, you may need to rest for a while and give the muscle some time to heal itself.
Use an ice pack to stop inflammation. You can use a pack of frozen peas and simply place it along the surface of the skin. This will contain the inflammation and help with speedy healing of the condition. You can also use some compression of the pulled muscle so that some heat is passed on to the muscles. The heat will help improve blood circulation to the muscles. Elevate your feet as this will help prevent heavy blood flow to the damaged muscle. The elevation of the feet is the best way to heal a pulled hamstring.

Are Yoga Exercises beneficial
The hamstrings are three muscles that are located right in the back of the upper thigh. These muscles are critical in bending, walking, and running. Almost all movements of your lower body will require the stimulation of the hamstrings. When you pull your hamstring, the first instinct is to stop and rest, but it is important to exercise, contract, and bend your knees so that your hamstring is no longer strained.
You can perform simple yoga stretches to stretch your hamstrings. These exercises for a pulled hamstring will also help you prevent further injuries to your hamstrings and joints. Start off with a simple forward bend and follow it up with a standing leg curl. Both these exercises help strengthen your hamstrings and improve muscle tone and flexibility. As a preventive measure, you can use ankle weights to train the muscles of your legs. However, if you have hurt your hamstrings, you should not use ankle weights at all. This could hurt your hamstrings even more. For stretching hamstring muscles, you can also perform the kneeler hip hitch. This exercise is performed by lifting one of your legs upwards till it is at the height of your thighs.
You can also perform hamstring stretches by sitting straight on the floor and bringing your knees to your chest. Keep this pose for a few seconds before stretching out.

How to improve hamstring stretch?
A tight and tense hamstring is something that is extremely common. For those who lead sedentary lives, the hamstrings may eventually become very tense. If you stretch them regularly, the hamstrings become relaxed and stronger. However, if the hamstrings are not worked upon regularly, you may get cramps and pulled muscles.
There are simple exercises to improve hamstring flexibility. The simplest of these are the hamstring stretch. Sit down on a flat surface, with both your legs stretched out in front of you. Keep your legs straight and extend yourself forward from your waist. Keep stretching your upper body further till your arms are able to reach out and grab your ankles.
Once you are able to reach your feet, you can hold your feet with both your hands. Hold this position for a few seconds and feel the tension seeping out of those knotted hamstrings. Now relax yourself and come into a relaxing position. Repeat this exercise several times till the hamstring feels relaxed and does not cause pain any more.
You can then come back into the straight position, with your legs stretched out in front of you. Bend one leg from the knee and pull it inwards so that the sole of your foot is touching the inner thigh of the other leg. Now bend over and with the opposite arm, grab the feet of the stretched leg. This too is one of the best hamstring stretching exercises. Repeat this with the other leg.
