Is this a medical diagnosis or is it your own? Usually the symptoms show up after about 24 to 48 hours after being exposed to poison ivy and might be in the form of redness on the affected skin, blisters, severe itching and swelling. It could be accompanied with fever and inflammation in certain cases. Symptoms could be all or any of those mentioned, depending on the severity of exposure to the plant. A mild case could clear up in a few days while a severe one could take weeks to treat.
Poison ivy contains oil called urushiol. It is this oil that causes the rash and allergic reactions. You could also get the allergic reactions if you touch something that has come in contact with this oil from the plant. You don't really have to be exposed to the plant to get it. It is that powerful.
You may try the following home remedies to treat poison ivy rash and blisters:
Eat foods that help to boost your immune system so you get well soon. You could eat foods rich in vitamin C, zinc, calcium, and beta carotene or you could also take supplements for these.
As soon as you are exposed to poison ivy or experience the symptoms was the affected area clean with soap and plenty of water. You need to get rid of the poison ivy deposits on your skin to stop the spread and control the itching. Next rub salt on the wet affected area. This will stop the itching as salt pulls out the greasy urushiol from the skin. You could also wipe the affected area with alcohol to get the oil off but do remember to wash it with water after doing so.
For the rash on your skin try applying calamine lotion. It sooths the skin and relieves the itching.
You can also use pure aloe vera gel on your skin to control the itching and treat the inflamed skin. Take a few fresh aloe vera leaves and wash them clean with plain water. Keep in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. Dry them with a clean cloth. Make a vertical slit on the leaf with a knife. Spoon out the cold transparent gel and apply directly on the affected area. This is very effective and extremely soothing for the irritated skin. If you can't find the fresh leaves, you could get pure aloe vera gel at your local health store. Keep it in the refrigerator and apply when needed.
Calendula gel made from the calendula or marigold flowers is also very effective in treating the severe itch and inflammation.
