Blood purification is a concept that is related to the idea of detoxification of the body. It is thought that over time toxins accumulate in the body, and this is the cause of many illnesses and disorders. People therefore use a variety of methods to get rid of these toxins, and blood purification is part of this process - the idea is to get rid of the toxins that have built up in the blood. Usually, as far as dietary methods are concerned, blood purification (and detoxification in general) is done either by fasting so that no new toxins are introduced to the body and it can get rid of those that have built up, or by limiting food intake to clean, natural foods such as fruit juices and raw or minimally cooked fruits and vegetables. The latter is preferable, especially if you lead an active life and cannot afford to take the time off. Consuming fruits, vegetables and fruit juices ensures that your body has the energy for all the activities of the day, without any of the unhealthy substances that we tend to consume in our daily lives. In addition, an increase in water intake is also recommended.
You should know however, that there is no real scientific basis for the idea of detoxification and blood purification. There already exists a natural way to purify your blood - this is done by your liver and kidneys. The main function of your kidneys is in fact to purify the blood by removing waste materials and toxic substances from the bloodstream. The liver plays a role in digestion, but it also helps break down toxic substances in the body. No additional cleansing of the blood or body is needed, except in cases of addiction. This however is a different type of detoxification - with addiction, the body gets used to the drugs that are being consumed, and does not function normally. When a person is attempting to quit an addictive substance, a detoxification program might be needed in order to help the body function normally without the substance in question, and minimize the symptoms of withdrawal.
Apart from this, there is no need for detoxification, and the toxins that are typically mentioned in alternative medicine are not clearly defined at all. There is no scientific evidence that toxins have accumulated in the body, and also no evidence that detoxification and blood purification programs provide any benefit.
