A small amount of vaginal discharge is normal and is not a cause of worry. It's the body's natural procedure to take out dead cells from the inner walls of the vagina. It also helps to clean the organ, keep it lubricated, and keep it free from infections. A healthy discharge normally appears clear or slightly milky, but does not have any foul smell. Although you have not mentioned foul-smelling discharge, the other symptoms you have described, however, appear to be a case of vaginal infection, commonly known as vaginitis. Vaginitis is a condition when the vagina is infected with certain microorganisms and gives out foul-smelling liquids accompanied with itching or burning of the area. Occasionally, it may also give rise to swelling and pain, and in some extreme cases, bleeding.
Here are some common remedies that you can try out. Eat plenty of yoghurt with your food. Alternatively, you can also apply tampons soaked in yoghurt inside the vagina. Also, add garlic to your diet as it can help fight infection in the body. Garlic too can be applied directly to the vagina. Tea tree oil is another helpful means to treat vaginitis since it is known to control infection and give relief from itching. Apply tea tree oil directly on the vagina or with the help of a tampon. You can also take Vitamin A and Vitamin E supplements.
Do take adequate care to stick to a healthy and nutritious diet. Drink plenty of water to help clean your body and stay properly hydrated. Eat fresh green vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and vitamin rich foods (carrot, broccoli, spinach, eggs, meat, poultry, fish, nuts, seeds, vegetable oils, milk, etc.). Avoid processed foods, refined flour, sugar, caffeinated drinks, and alcohol.
It is also important that you take some caution to better manage the situation. Always wear cotton underwear and maintain proper hygiene. Avoid anything that irritates your skin or the genital area. Wash your vagina thoroughly and frequently with water so that it remains clean. Do not allow soap particles to enter the vagina; take a shower instead of a tub bath. A little bit of mild physical exercise everyday (like jogging or walking) can also be helpful. Physical exercise leads to sweating, which in turn helps release toxins from the body.
If the condition does not improve even after following the remedies mentioned here, do consult a gynecologist and ask for proper medical advice.
