Causes Of Excessive Burping

What can be used to make a person burp? We have tried every thing that we can think of. My son has very bad breathe problem, and it seems if he burps it helps. I hope you can help us?

Burping (or belching) is a physical phenomenon by which the body releases gas from the digestive system through mouth, often accompanied by a sound and odor. Our body burps because the air we swallow (mostly oxygen and nitrogen) while eating food needs to be expelled somehow. Burping releases the extra gas inside our digestive tract. Burping can also happen due to action of certain foods and drinks. It is quite strange that you have asked for methods to induce a burp. In general, burping in public is considered a bit impolite and people do all sort of things to avoid a burp in public. However, since you have asked, there are a few things you can do to induce burping in your son. Carbonated drinks like soda, beer, and soft drinks are known to cause burping. You can make him drink one of these and see if it helps him burp. Chewing gums and hard candies may also make him burp. Certain foods like cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, sprouts and beans are known to cause bloating in the stomach and increase chances of burping. You can also try fruits like apple, pear and peach.

But instead of inducing a burp to get rid of bad breath, you should better try out other remedies to treat the problem of bad breath. You should, in fact, insist on proper oral hygiene to get rid of bad breath. The causes of bad breath can be varied - it may be due the food particles stuck in the mouth; it may be due to dental problems like plaque and decay; and also from certain diseases. Make your child brush teeth and tongue at least twice a day after meal. Flossing is also important to get rid of food particles and plaques. Make him floss at least one a day. It is also important that you take him regularly to a dentist for check up. A proper oral care routine along with a regular visit to the dentist should take care of the problem of bad breath. Occasionally, however, bad breath may be an indication of some underlying disease. For example, a person suffering from diabetes gives out breath smelling of acetone. Occasionally, bad breath can be a result of sinus problem or some kidney problem. It may be unlikely that your child has any of these, but it is better to consult a physician once to put all doubts to rest
