Avocado is a pear-shaped fruit primarily found in Central America. It has a rough green colored skin on the outside. When you cut it open it is whitish from the inside and has a big seed of 3-5 cms in the middle. The avocado tree cannot withstand freezing temperatures and grows only in tropical and subtropical climates. It is an expensive fruit and has a high fat content.
Guacamole is a popular Mexican Spanish relish or dip made from the avocado fruit. It is a favorite snack food and common at parties. Ripe avocados are mashed together with lime and salt as basic ingredients. It is convenient to mix salsa into mashed avocados, add lime and salt and bring it along with you for a potluck lunch or dinner. Modifications to this basic dip can include addition of garlic, cilantro (coriander leaves), tomato, onion, chilli peppers and other spices, milk and/or black pepper corns. It can be eaten with a spoon as a snack item or tortilla chips can be dipped in it and eaten. It can be mixed with any Mexican dish or even used as a sandwich spread.
